"In an honest service there is thin commons, low wages, and hard labor; in this, plenty and satiety, pleasure and ease, liberty and power; and who would not balance creditor on this side, when all the hazard that is run for it, at worst, is only a sour look or two at choking. No, a merry life and a short one, shall be my motto." -Bartholomew Black

Welcome Aboard,Mates!

Hello and welcome to my webpage promoting my new novel, Pyrate Straits. This is Book One of the "Spanish Tom" series.

I'm M.H. Healy, and you could say that I'm a bit of a pirate fan! The pirates of the Caribbean were real and pirates truly lived amazing lives. Although hidden pirate treasure wasn't real, pirate ships really did rove the seas looking for vessels to plunder.

I have been fascinated with the lives of pirates, privateers, buccaneers, Corsairs,Salay Rovers and Sea Dogs alike! If its nautical or maritime, I love it!

Here's what my new novel, Pyrate Straits, is about:

Pyrate Straits is the tale of Kwame Obasanjo, an African teen from the shores of Senegal raised by Jesuits and thrown into horrid slavery by a vicious Portuguese slave captain. Kwame is mistreated and beaten, longing for any means of escape. His chance finally arrives when pirates raid the island and he chooses to help the freebooters!

He must choose between his moral Jesuit upbringing and the life of a sea dog, creating a moral dilemma. Is it better to be an ethical slave or a thieving pirate free on the waves?!

The hypocrisy of the times becomes apparent as he joins with the infamous Bartholomew Roberts to learn that the difference between good and evil is not always so clear.

On his many adventures, he gains a trusted friend in Eugene Broussard, aka "Lapin" and has a forbidden love affair with a Spanish aristocrat's daughter. During his travels, Kwame/Spanish Tom will seek out his lost sister and the madman who murdered his mother, all while facing British warships, Barbary Corsairs, hurricanes and his own inner demons!

Copies of Pyrate Straits can be purchased through Library Tales Publishing starting in July 2015.

Until then, mates, a healthy "huzzah" to all and I'll see you on the quarterdeck!
